Aur Sab Bhool Gaye Harf-e-Sadaqat Likhna is a powerful Urdu Ghazal written by the revolutionary Pakistani poet, Habib Jalib.

Note:

As a rule of thumb, we will have the full original version first — so it retains its literary and artistic expression fully and those who understand the language can experience its rhythm and structure uninterrupted — followed by its translation into English and/or other languages so those who do not read the original language fluently, or are learning, easily understand the context.

Moreover, while we at Bahaaristan have tried to translate ‘Aur Sab Bhool Gaye Harf Sadaqat Likhna’ into English, it must, however, be noted that a translated poem may carry the message, but it can never fully capture its essence — the depth of thought, the layered emotions, and the beauty of the language that make the original poem so powerful.

Aur Sab Bhool Gaye Harf-e-Sadaqat Likhna by Habib Jalib

Aur Sab Bhool Gaye Harf-e-Sadaqat Likhna by Habib Jalib with English Translation

And everyone forgot how to write the word of truth

Writing rebellion was left my duty alone

Though they insist: “Do not call the darkness as darkness”

We never learned, my dear, to write by permission

We desire neither reward nor praise

Writing for our people’s cause is simply our habit

Because we never wrote an ode to the king, even by mistake

Perhaps it is through this virtue that we learned to write

What greater praise for me could there possibly be?

The wealthy masters are not pleased to read what I write

Once bound to the sorrows of the world, we forgot

To write of tall, youthful, and captivating beloved

Let the king’s courtier say what they will, Jalib

Stay true to your colours, continue writing writing the same way

Aur Sab Bhool Gaye Harf-e-Sadaqat Likhna by Habib Jalib in Roman Urdu

Aur sab bhool gaye harf-e-sadaqat likhna

Reh gaya kaam hamara hi bagawat likhna

Haq mein logoun kay hamari to hai aadat likhna

Is se barh kar meri tehseen bhala kya hogi

Parh ke na khush hain mera sahib-e-sarwat likhna

Deher ke gham se hua rabt to hum bhool gaye

Sarw qamat ko jawani ko qiyamat likhna

Kuch bhi kehte hain kahin shah ke musahib Jalib

Rang rakhna yehi apna, isi soorat likhna
