Jab ishq sikhata hai adab-e-khud agahi is an urdu nazm by Pakistan’s national poet, Allama Iqbal.
VERSE 1 – Jab Ishq Sikhata Hai Adab-e-khud-Agahi by Allama Iqbal
[Jab ishq sikhata hai adab-e-khud agahi]
[Khultay hain ghulamoun per asrar-e-shehanshahi]
When love teaches the manners of self-awareness
The secrets of kingship are revealed to the slaves
VERSE 2 – Jab Ishq Sikhata Hai Adab-e-khud-Agahi by Allama Iqbal
[Attar ho Rumi ho Razi ho Ghazali ho]
[Kuch haath nahin aata be-aah-e-sehar-gahi]
Whether it’s Attar, Rumi, Razi, or Ghazali
No one can attain anything without the morning sigh
VERSE 3 – Jab Ishq Sikhata Hai Adab-e-khud-Agahi by Allama Iqbal
[Naumeed na ho in say aye rahbar-e-farzana]
[kam-kosh tou hain lekin be-zauq nahin rahi]
Do not despair, O wise guide,
Though the traveler may be lacking, he is not without taste.
VERSE 4 – Jab Ishq Sikhata Hai Adab-e-khud-Agahi by Allama Iqbal
[Aye Tahir-e-Lahooti, us rizq say maut achi]
[Jis rizq say aati ho, parwaz. mein kotahi]
O Divine Bird, death is better than the sustenance
Which hinders and clogs your upward flight
VERSE 5 – Jab Ishq Sikhata Hai Adab-e-khud-Agahi by Allama Iqbal
[Dara o Sikandar se woh mard-e-faqeer aula ]
[Ho jis ki faqeeri mein boo-e-Asad-ul-Laahi]
More exalted than kings like Dara and Alexander
Is the man of poverty, whose poverty carries the scent of the Lion of God.
VERSE 6 – Jab Ishq Sikhata Hai Adab-e-khud-Agahi by Allama Iqbal
[Aaeen-e-jawan mardaan, Haq Goyi-o-bebaki]
[Allah ke shairoun ko aati nahin rubahi]
The way of brave men is to speak the truth without fear
For the lions of Allah know no deceit or cunning
