Kabhi Ae Haqiqat-e-Muntazir by Allama Iqbal

Musheer (Advisor) is a satirical poem written by a famous Pakistani poet, Habib Jalib. Jalib wrote it in response to a conversation he had with Hafiz Jalandari when he assumed the role of an advisor to the military dictator Ayub Khan.

Kabhi Aye Haqeeqat-e-Muntazir (translation: “O awaited reality”) was penned by ‘Allama’ Muhammad Iqbal, and was published in his works under Bang-e-Dara, when some of his critics remarked on his lack of daily prayers.

Iqbal’s poetry remains deeply relevant for Muslims today, and hence, this is our effort to make it more accessible and understandable for a wider audience.

Note:

As a rule of thumb, we will have the full original version first — so it retains its literary and artistic expression fully and those who understand the language can experience its rhythm and structure uninterrupted — followed by its translation into English and/or other languages so those who do not read the original language fluently, or are learning, easily understand the context.

Moreover, while we at Bahaaristan have tried to translate ‘Kabhi Ae Haqiqat-e-Muntazir’ into English, it must, however, be noted that a translated poem may carry the message, but it can never fully capture its essence — the depth of thought, the layered emotions, and the beauty of the language that make the original poem so powerful.

Kabhi Ae Haqiqat-e-Muntazir by Allama Iqbal

Kabhi Ae Haqiqat-e-Muntazir by Allama Iqbal with English Translation

O awaited Reality, reveal Yourself for once in material form

For a thousand prostrations are quivering in longing upon my humble forehead

Become acquainted with the joy of tumult—be a melody intimate with the ear
What worth is that song that remains hidden in the silence of the instrument?

Do not guard it so cautiously—your heart is such a mirror

That, when shattered, becomes dearer in the eyes of the Creator

The moth, while circling the flame, whispered: “That ancient fervour—

Is found neither in the tale of burning nor in my narrative of melting.”

Nowhere in the world did I find refuge, and peace was found where…

My wrecked soul found solace only in Your Gracious Mercy

Neither does love retain its old warmth, nor beauty its playful charm

Neither does the restless fire remain in Ghaznavi, nor that curl in the locks of Ayaz

When I bowed my head in prayer, a voice cried out from the earth;
“Your heart is devoted to idols—what will you ever gain from prayer?”

Kabhi Ae Haqiqat-e-Muntazir by Allama Iqbal in Roman Urdu

Kabhi ae haqeeqat-e-muntazir, nazar aa libaas-e-majaz mein

Ke hazaaron sajday tarap rahe hain meri jabeen-e-niyaz mein

Tarab aashna-e-khurosh ho, tou nawa hai mehram-e-gosh ho

Woh surood kya ke chhupa hua ho sakoot-pardah-e-saaz mein

Tu bacha bacha ke na rakh ise, tera aaina hai woh aaina

Ke shikasta ho to azeez tar hai nigah-e-aina saaz mein

Dam-e-toof karamak-e-shama ne yeh kaha ke woh asar-e-kuhan

Na teri hikayat-e-soz mein, na meri hadees-e-gudaz mein

Na kahin jahan mein amaan mili, jo amaan mili to kahan mili

Mere jurm-e-khana kharab ko, tere afw-e-banda nawaz mein

Na woh ishq mein rahin garmiyan, na woh husn mein rahin shokhiyan

Na woh Ghaznavi mein tarap rahi, na woh kham hai zulf-e-Ayaz mein

Jo main sar ba sajda hua kabhi to zameen se aane lagi sada

Tera dil to hai sanam aashna, tujhe kya milega namaz mein
