Dono Jahan Teri Mohabbat Mein Haar Ke | Ghazal by Faiz Ahmad Faiz

“Dono Jahan Teri Mohabbat Mein Haar Ke” is an Urdu ghazal by Faiz Ahmed Faiz, often regarded as one of the finest Pakistani poets who blended love with politics.

Note:

We have tried to translate Dono Jahan Teri Mohabbat Mein Haar Ke into English. However, it must be noted that while a translated poem may carry the message, it can never fully capture its essence — the depth of thought, the layered emotions, and the beauty of the language that make the original poem so powerful.

Dono Jahan Teri Mohabbat Mein Haar Ke by Faiz Ahmad Faiz

[Donon jahan teri mohabbat mein haar ke]
[Woh ja raha hai koi shab-e-gham guzaar ke]

[Veeraan hai mai-kadah, kham-o-saagar udaas hain]
[Tum kya gaye ke rooth gaye din-e-bahaar ke]

[Bhoole se muskara to diye thay woh aaj Faiz]
[Mat poochh walwale dil-e-naakardah kaar ke]

Having lost both this world and the next for your love
He departs after enduring a night of sorrow

The tavern lies deserted, the goblets mournful

Since you left, even spring has turned away

We were given a brief chance to sin, barely four days.

So much for the Almighty’s boldness; we’ve seen it for ourselves

This world has estranged us from your very thoughts

The burden of survival are more tempting than you

Today, she smiled, perhaps by accident, Faiz

Don’t ask what it stirred in a heart still untouched, still untested.
