Lab pe aati hai dua (Urdu: لب پہ آتی ہے دعا; also known as “bachche ki dua”) is a dua or prayer in Urdu, authored by Pakistan’s national poet, Allama Muhammad Iqbal, in 1902. The dua is recited in morning school assemblies across Pakistan and Urdu-medium schools in India.

VERSE 1 – Lab pe aati hai dua by Allama Iqbal
لب پہ آتی ہے دعا بن کے تمنا میری
زندگی شمع کی صورت ہو خدایا میری
[Lab pe aati hai dua ban ke tamanna meri]
[Zindagi shamma ki soorat ho khudaya meri]
A wish turns into a prayer upon my lips
O God, may my life be like a shining candle
VERSE 2 – Bache ki dua by Allama Iqbal
دور دنیا کا میرے دم سے اندھیرا ہو جائے
ہر جگہ میرے چمکنے سے اجالا ہو جائے
[Duur duniya ka mere dam se andher ho jaaye]
[Har jagah mere chamakne se ujala ho jaaye]
May the darkness of the world be dispelled through my life
May my radiance illuminate every place
VERSE 3 – Bache ki dua by Allama Iqbal
ہو میرے دم سے یونہی میرے وطن کی زینت
جس طرح پھول سے ہوتی ہے چمن کی زینت
[Ho mere dam se yunhi mere watan ki zeenat]
[Jis tarah phool se hoti hai chaman ki zeenat]
May my homeland, through me, attain elegance
Just as the garden, through flowers, attains elegance

زندگی ہو میری پروانے کی صورت یا رب
علم کی شمع سے ہو مجھ کو محبت یا رب
[Zindagi ho meri parvane ki surat ya-rab]
[Ilm ki shamma say ho mujh jo muhabbat ya-rab]
O God, may my life be like that of a moth [that is drawn to light, even at the cost of its own life]
May my love be for the beacon of knowledge, O God

ہو میرا کام غریبوں کی حمایت کرنا
درد مندوں سے ضعیفوں سے محبت کرنا
[Ho mera kaam ghareeboun ki himayat karna]
[Dard-mandoun say za’eefoun say muhabbat karna]
May my life’s way be to support the needy
And to love the old and the grief-stricken

مرے اللہ برائی سے بچانا مجھ کو
نیک جو راہ ہو اس رہ پہ چلانا مجھ کو
[Mere Allah, burayi say bachana mujh ko]
[Naik jo raah ho usi raah per chalana mujh ko]
O my Allah, protect me from evil,
Walk me through the path that leads to virtue
